12 Fresh deaths, 708 new cases of coronavirus reported from across J&K

12 more people lost lives to COVID19 in Kashmir today, including a 43-year old Srinagar man with no underlying diseases.

COVID19 continued to cause deaths in young ‘otherwise healthy’ individuals. Another 43 year old man from Hawal Srinagar died at SKIMS Soura today. He had been admitted with COVID19 pneumonia, a doctor at the hospital said. However, the doctor said the patient had been admitted very late into the disease. “He was under treatment only for one day and had acute respiratory distress when he was brought to the hospital,” the doctor said.

Five more Srinagar residents were among the deceased. These were a 60 year old woman from Lal Chowk, a 55 year old woman from Rainawari, a 60 year old man from Shalteng, a 65 year old female from Hawal, a 75 year old from Chattabal.

The other deaths included an 82 year old man from Batpora Karnah Kupwara who lost life at SMHS Hospital and another 80 year old man from Tadd Karnah Kupwara who died at SDH Karnah. An 80 year old from Chinipora Karnah also lost life at SMHS Hospital.

A 72 year old from Sebdan Budgam, a 65 year old from Sopore Baramulla, a 65 year old from Wachi Shopian died at GMC Anantnag on 17 August and was reported today, a health official said.

Meanwhile, 708 new Covid cases, during the last 24 hours, the caseload in J&K has reached 30,034. In the Jammu province, 102 new cases were reported while the number of fresh Covid patients in the Kashmir valley was 606.

Eleven deaths, all in Kashmir Valley, have been reported during the same period, taking the toll in the UT to 572. As many as 41 patients have lost their lives in the Jammu province while 531 deaths have been reported in the Kashmir valley.

Moreover, 611 more patients have recovered and been discharged from various hospitals, 175 in the Jammu division and 436 in the Kashmir valley.

As many as 45 patients were cured and discharged from hospitals, the recovery rate in Udhampur district has reached 90 per cent, highest ever in the UT.

“With another 45 patients cured and discharged today, total persons cured so far in the district stands at 602.

“This district has achieved a 90 per cent cure rate. Best wishes to the whole health team for stupendous effort”, Dr Piyush Singla, Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, tweeted.

Out of the total 664 positive patients in Udhampur district, 602 have recovered so far.

According to the official bulletin issued on Wednesday evening, out of the 30,034 positive cases, 6,965 are active, 22,497 have recovered and 572 have died; 41 in the Jammu division and 531 in the Kashmir valley.

The bulletin further said out of 8,22,574 test results available, 7,92,540 samples have been tested negative.

Meanwhile the J&K Government has evacuated about 3,29,220 residents, stranded in other parts of the country due to the Covid lockdown, via Lakhanpur and through special trains and buses till date amid strict observance of all necessary guidelines and standard operating procedures.
